- By PAULINI CURUQARA

NEW ZEALAND-BORN Travis Cashemore hopes to follow his first uncle and former All Blacks player Adrian Cashemore as an All Black player.

The 20-yea- old was born and raised in Waikato and is currently studying in Dunedin.

He is also part of the Uluinakau 7s team taking part in the 12th Kombat Uluinakau Rugby 7s tournament at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori. He said he came to Fiji through his coach back at home Jekope who sought him through a deal to come over and try out the training and playing 7s rugby in Fiji.

“Even though it was a short notice, I wasn’t going to turn down an opportunity; got ready packed my bags and head over. It has been great ever since and the boys have been welcoming, helped me a lot and taught me how to play 7s,” he said.

“It’s a lot different from where I come from but its good to learn in both ways.

“I am learning a lot from these boys and I am looking forward to play in the Coral Coast 7s before I had back home January 16 where I will take whatever I’ve learnt and use it in my games over there.

“I plan to continue playing rugby in Dunedin and hopefully see some future success.”

The lanky tall lad plays wing or fullback in 15s and midfield or wing in 7s.

He hopes to make it through to the All Blacks 7s team but he said he has to make his way up.

He started playing rugby when he was five years old, loved it ever since and played 7s in 2014 -2015.

He plays premier rugby in Dunedin, playing for Green Island.

His uncle Adrian Richard Cashmore is a rugby player, who played for Auckland and Bay of Plenty provincially, and the Auckland Blues and Chiefs in Super Rugby.

He also played professionally in Japan and for Welsh region the Ospreys in the Celtic League.
