139 GRADUATES
SERVE with humility and love.
This was the message to the 139 Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education students who graduated this week.
Chief guest Doctor Isimeli Tagicakiverata, Director of the National Training and Productivity Centre of the Fiji National University, told nurses their calling was to serve.
“In this chosen field you are dedicating your life to service. That is service to your family, service to your village, service to your community and of course your service to the nation,” he said.
“You will each be responsible for influencing and assisting the health and wellbeing of those who look up to you for advice and for specialised assistance.
“There will be times when you will be tested physically, mentally, and emotionally, but I encourage you to maintain your compassion and sensitivity in conducting your duties.”

This life of service, Dr Tagicakiverata said, was highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic last year, whereby graduates of the institution who were awaiting employment, joined the FNU nursing graduates in volunteering their time and services.
“I would like to remind our graduates that whilst you will receive your certificates today denoting your skills and expertise, do not forget the importance of soft skills,” he said.
“These are the basic features and attitude that our parents and elders taught us such as discipline, manners, punctuality, honesty and integrity. I urge you all to be conscious of ethics and your soft skills. These include effective communication, patience and empathy, which are very important when dealing with people.”
“In today’s competitive world of work, your soft skills, your good attitude and behaviour will set you apart and take you along way to a bright and prosperous future.”
