ODPP issues crimes data
AS many as 25 people were charged with 28 varying counts of serious crimes last December, statistics from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) have shown.
Offences included a count each of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and act with intent to cause grievous harm.
Two counts of aggravated robbery and threats and false statements at an airport were recorded, and three counts of serious assault, seven of aggravated burglary and 10 of theft. There were 17 victims of the reported crimes.
Out of the 25 accused persons, two were juveniles.
In two separate incidents, two accused persons were charged with making threats and false statements at an airport. It is alleged the accused persons informed security officers that they had bombs in their possession.
A 48-year-old man was charged with the murder of his 74-year-old father.
In another instance, two accused persons were charged with the attempted murder of a 70-year-old man. According to the ODPP, a private prosecution was filed in this matter by a lawyer.
However, the DPP took over the matter and filed a discontinuance to allow police to complete the investigation.
In an aggravated robbery case, a 41-year-old man was charged with three counts of serious assault and one count of an act with intent to cause grievous harm.
It is alleged the accused assaulted two police officers.
During the alleged aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft offences, about $980 to $11,000 worth of cash and assorted items were stolen during home invasions, shop burglaries, carjacking, and night street robberies.
