Tuiloa up for the task

- By PAULINI CURUQARA

FIJI Rugby Union interim chief executive officer Tevita Tuiloa says he will continue the good work that has been left by John O’Connor.

O’Connor resigned yesterday as FRU CEO after six years in the role. He cited personal reasons for his resignation.

Tuiloa, who is on the FRU board and a former Suva Rugby Union secretary, will act in the position until a suitable candidate has been selected.

“I look forward to continuing the good work he has done and building on the work that we’ve already achieved by carrying that in to the new year,” Tuiloa said.

“Hopefully the board will achieve some of the plans for this year, especially with the Super W and also with the Rugby World Cup at the end of the year.

“I would like to thank the board for showing their confidence in me. I’m looking forward to working with them and assuring that we have a smooth transition until we have a new appointment in the next one month or so.”

Tuiloa is a principal auditor at teh Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and his expertise is expected to be of great value to the Fiji

Rugby.

He was appointed to the FRU board in April last year during the FRU’s annual general meeting at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

“We have a busy rugby schedule, as the chairman briefed the team this morning (yesterday) the status remains - programs, commitments still remain the same.

“So we will need the same level of dedication and passion from the team, we will be working hard to overcome those challenges and hopefully make a successful rugby year.

O’Connor said Tuiloa was capable replacement and would rise to the challenges.

I look forward to continuing the good work he has done and building on the work that we’ve already

achieved
