THE Prohibition Notice issued against Dayals Steels Pte Ltd by the Department of Environment has been revoked.

This was confirmed by company managing director Jay Dayal yesterday.

According to Mr Dayal the revocation of the Prohibition Notice came as a directive from the PMs Office last week and was enforced yesterday.

In the meantime, he said the issues raised by the Director of

Environment in the Prohibition Notice would be addressed by the company in due course on an agreed timeline with the assistance of the Department of Environment.

“PM’s Assistant Minister, the PM’S officials, Minister for Trade, PS Environment, Director Environment, DoE officials and the company met today to discuss the issues raised by the Director of Environment and address the grievances of the company,” said Mr Dayal.

“I did request the PMs Office to intervene as we felt we were treated unfairly, the PN was too harsh for a very small number of non-compliances especially when there was absolutely no evidence of any material or physical damage to our environment.

“The PMs Office stressed that the business and livelihood of 200 people was of concern and no business has to be victimised.

“We are indeed very thankful to our Honourable Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and his Deputy PM Manoa Kamikamica and the entire cabinet for their immediate assistance in this matter,” he said.

OUTSOURCE Fiji has announced it will be hosting a Symposium in New Zealand this year with prominent keynote speakers, stimulating panel discussions, and exhibitions for Fijian BPO (business process outsourcing) companies.

The Fiji Outsourcing Symposium and Exhibition will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 and will include a networking cocktail event at the closing of the 8 hour symposium.

Executive director of Outsource Fiji Shagufta Janif said through this symposium, the company hoped to take a sample of Fiji’s outsourcing industry to New Zealand to showcase the opportunities to a thus far untapped market.

“Fiji is now being looked at as a premium outsourcing destination by many international businesses,” she said, “In line with our 4 year strategic plan which was launched last year, Outsource Fiji will be working closely with its stakeholders and the Fiji government to tap into new markets, such as the UK, USA, and New Zealand.”

Fiji’s Trade Commissioner to Australia and New Zealand, Daniel Stow expressed the commission’s eagerness for the symposium saying the commission would like to ensure Fiji was among the top names thought of for outsourcing for New Zealand companies.

Given Fiji’s close proximity to New Zealand, close time zones, top of the line infrastructure, service culture, and the young, dynamic and technologically efficient workforce, Mr Stow believes Fiji is in a unique position to fill in for labour shortages in New Zealand.

The symposium is expected to host about 80 to 100 New Zealand business professionals. Outsource Fiji invites businesses in New Zealand facing significant labour shortages to attend the symposium and contact the company to confirm their interest.
