Tagimoucia brace Navosa to play hearts out for tough challenge for vanua

- By PAULINI CURUQARA By PAULINI CURUQARA

TAGIMOUCIA Ranadi is in a tough pool with Army, Seahawks and a wildcard team at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens.

Coach Ana Rabuka said teams would come in strong with a goal in mind and that was to win.

“We’ve already played Army before in the last Nawaka 7s in our quarter-final, I think, where we lost. Army got a few Fijiana players in their team, which is to their advantage,” she said.

“Our girls debuted in the last Nawaka 7s and to look back and to see how far they have come and progressed tournament after tournament, I am so proud of them.

“With Seahawks, we’ve watched them play in a few tournaments we were also in, just like the Army team they also have some very talented players and as I’ve already told my girls that Pool B for us is not a pool to take for granted.

“But I have faith in my girls and I know that they will give their best in all the games that they will play come this weekend.

“They have to play as a team and trust each other with their individual roles.

“We are the 2022 Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s Women champion and runners-up in the Nacula 7s, that I know have inspired the girls to stay focused on their rugby dream come this new season, not only in 7s but also in 15s.”

THE Navosa women’s 7s team is being reminded to play their hearts out for the vanua in the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens in Sigatoka.

Manager Paulina Ratuwara said the girls, who were all from Navosa, are being reminded to work hard and most of all play for the vanua.

“Since we are representing the vanua, it is important to always show our respect and play our hearts for the vanua,” she said.

“Majority of these players are unemployed, so I always tell them to play hard and make a living.

“Rugby is now a source of living; you train hard, play well, you can get work by being selected into bigger teams such as the Army and Police.”

Paulina said taking part in bigger tournaments such as the Fiji 7s Series, the Ranadi Championship and other tournaments had improved their performance.

Now with the Fiji Coral Coast Sevens this weekend, they hope to make it to the top.

“Before we begin our morning training, we start off with the devotion to help in with their spiritual lives.

“Then we had off to our gym session at Laselase Village and work on our game plan and have our skill session.”

She adds one of the main challenges they faced was securing sponsorship to help them prepare for a tournament.

They are grateful to Sigatoka Safari for coming on board to pay for their registration fee.
