Lal replaces Akbar in Parliament
FIJIFIRST candidate Virendra Lal has been awarded a seat in Parliament by the Electoral Commission (EC)
The seat became vacant after the resignation of former minister for women Rosy Akbar.
“As per section 64(1) of the 2013 Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, Virendra Lal, candidate number 265, having secured 539 votes in the 2022 General Election is the highest ranked out of the candidates of the FijiFirst who did not get elected to Parliament but is still available to serve,” stated the EC ruling.
“The Electoral Commission approves the awarding of the vacant parliamentary seat to Mr Virendra Lal.”
Mr Lal is expected to be sworn in when Parliament convenes in March.
