Fund names 2 new members to its board
TRADE unionist Attar Singh and business executive Joe Taoi have been appointed to the Fiji National Provident Fund board (FNPF).
The appointment was done the Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad, in accordance with Section 7 of the FNPA Act and followed by a fit and proper assessment by the Reserve Bank of Fiji.
FNPF board chairman Daksesh Patel said he was optimistic they would contribute productively from an employer and employee perspective.
They replaced businessman, Sanjay Kaba and Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission chief executive officer Joel Abraham who had resigned.
Mr Patel acknowledged Mr Kaba and Mr Abraham’s contributions to FNFP and wished them well in their future endeavours.
The other board members are Mukhtar Ali, Kalpana Lal, and Shiri Gounder.
Mr Singh has more than 35 years of experience as a trade unionist. He has served on various boards tasked with upholding workers’ rights and their occupational health and safety. Mr Singh is the assistant national secretary for the Fiji Trade Unions Congress.
Mr Taoi has 30 years in international shipping, warehouse and distribution, supply chain management and trade facilitation.
He established Freight Services Fiji and was instrumental in the establishment of the Fiji Indigenous Business Council, of which he is still a board member. He was also instrumental in the planning, design and establishment of the Fiji Export Council and was the board chairman from 2004 to 2015.
Mr Singh and Mr Taoi officially joined the FNPF as board directors on February 22, 2023.
