THE City Netters Netball Club received a major boost after the Motibhai Group joined them as they aimed at bringing the community together while promoting healthy living at the same time.

The Motibhai Group continues to support sporting activities.

Motibhai Group has been supporting Futsal and Volleyball events in the country. In a statement, the company expressed its interest in joining hands with the newly formed City Netters Netball Club to host a one- day tournament on Saturday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Club president Roneet Prasad said the club was happy to host the inaugural Wrigley’s Extra City Netters netball tournament in partnership with an esteemed organisation such as the Motibhai Group.

“We are a newly formed netball club and are very passionate about the sport of netball which we know is a great community sport, helps foster our local talents and further builds peer relationships,” Prasad said.

“With this tournament we hope to promote the game we all love as well as focus on staying healthy through sporting activities,” Prasad added.

Prasad said the tournament also provided a platform to unify and diversify the game.

“With the inclusion of all cultural groups and having both open (women) and mixed (men and women) categories so that everyone can partake in the tournament.

“As netball is a growing sport with interest and participation increasing, there have been numerous events and tournaments during the year with keen involvement from clubs and individuals and we hope this tournament also provides healthy and quality competition to all,” Prasad said.

Group marketing and business development manager Abraham Gomes said the company was extremely proud to support such events which not only brings people of all walks of life together, but also promotes an active lifestyle at the same time.

“This is the first time for Extra Sugar Free chewing gums to sponsor a local club organising a one-day netball tournament in Suva and we are very excited about it,” Gomes said.

“People must be thinking, what connection Extra chewing gums may have in supporting sporting activities in the county? Athletes and players need to be focused, and one way to maintain that is while you chew a gum. With Extra which is a sugar free gum, you not only get the right focus but also your teeth are well protected from cavities.”

The one-day tournament will feature about 16 open and 12 mixed grade teams, having around 310 participants in total.

All sanctioned rules and regulations of the game along with proper standards will be maintained throughout the tournament as per the governing body — Netball Fiji Association. Meanwhile, the total prizemoney for the winning teams is $500 and $450 in the open and mixed categories respectively.
