Sims will bolster Storm

South east zone schools postpone games

- By MELI LADDPETER

EVERY year we seem to eulogise the Storm, but Craig Bellamy’s undefeated Round 1 record remains in tact after a 16-12 golden point win over the Eels.

Cameron Munster showed real toughness to play through the pain of a compound fracture to his finger, but the Storm will now be without him for a couple of games and his are some big shoes to fill.

Harry Grant was the best player on the field against the Eels and looks set for a huge year after his golden point try heroics in Round 1.

Nick Meaney filled in for Ryan Papenhuyzen with aplomb and showed he can fill the void until his return mid-season.

Recruit Eliesa Katoa showed he can help cover for the exodus of experience from the Storm pack and Tariq Sims will also bolster the rotation when he returns. The Storm will fancy their chances against a Bulldogs outfit low on confidence in Round 2.

ALL South East Zone Secondary Schools Rugby League games scheduled to be held this weekend have been postponed because of the adverse weather the country is experiencing.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League marketing officer Laisiasa Corerega said the adverse weather that the country has been experiencing over the past week forced the FSSRL to postpone the zone.

“The safety of our players is paramount. We will not be having the South East zone due to weather and if it continues this way, then we will have to wait until we will be able to field our matches,” he said.

With the closure of schools across the country the past two days, Corerega said postponing the competition was the right thing to do.

“This will perhaps buy players, teams and coaches more time to prepare.”

The South East Zone has been postponed to March 18, at the St Marcellin Primary School grounds in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
