Successful resolution

THE Ministry of Employment, Productivi­ty and Industrial Relations says interventi­on of the mediation services resulted in a successful resolution of an employment dispute between Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL) and the Constructi­on, Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF). The ministry states after intensive negotiatio­ns, agreement has been reached between the two parties over the union log of claims, including an increase in wages, salary and allowances and back payment from January 1, 2023. The mediation proceeding­s, which commenced on July 18 over six sessions of negotiatio­ns, have successful­ly concluded with an agreement signed on Thursday that included a 12 per cent pay rise for EFL workers.

Act comes into effect

THE High Court (Amendment) Act has come into effect from September 19, states a gazette order issued under the authority of the Attorney-General Siromi Turaga. This now means the AntiCorrup­tion Courts in the High Court and the Magistrate Courts are no longer in operation. In 2021, the High Court Act and the Magistrate’s Court Act were amended to establish the AntiCorrup­tion Division of the High Court and the Anti-Corruption Division of the Magistrate’s Court respective­ly..

Education summit ends

THE National Education Summit 2023 ended in Nadi on Friday night. Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro said “the real journey starts now”. “Your Ministry of Education will continue to look to you all and your organisati­ons for the implementa­tions of our resolution­s,” he said. “And we are optimistic that we will not end here. But complete and achieve what we must to transform education accessibil­ity and quality for all Fijians.”
