Vosarogo: Set aside differences
MINISTER for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo has urged landowners in Vitogo, Lautoka, and city officials to set aside differences and work together for the benefit of their people.
Visiting Lautoka last week, Mr Vosarogo met with Vitogo Development Trustees and Lautoka City Council to discuss foreshore development opportunities and challenges.
He said as the main authority of foreshore developments, it was important to meet with the trustees of the Vitogo Development Committee and Lautoka City Council officials to ensure they worked together and set aside differences.
“The Lautoka Foreshore can be a legacy development and will be admired by your visitors,” said Mr Vosarogo in a statement.
“It may warrant them to come again and again. Your job is to get together, pull in your designs, ambitions, and plan that observes environmental thresholds and overlay it with a futuristic perspective to attract people and businesses to your city.
“Your waterfront development can host lots for BPOs, integrated tourism, shopping malls, fish and diving outlets, and eateries.
“The development, advancing rapidly from Nadi towards your city, is growing. Tourists want to come to your city, but they need to be attracted here.
“Your foreshore development, with the qoliqoli owners is your best platform.”
Mr Vosarogo said there was a need to develop more tourist attractions in the two major cities.
“We want to ensure foreshore development in Suva and Lautoka that attracts tourism.
“I feel tourists are coming to see the same things in the usual hotspots. We want to provide something new in these two cities that will make tourists visit Suva and Lautoka.”
