Minister unveils MultiEthnic Framework to foster unity and inclusivity
THE policy report on the MultiEthnic Framework that aims to foster social cohesion and embracing diversity in propelling Fiji forward into the path of inclusivity and unity has been completed.
This was announced by the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs & Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh recently.
The establishment of the MultiEthnic Affairs Ministry, reinstated by the Coalition Government in 2023, underscores the commitment to addressing the diverse needs of Fiji’s population.
Minister Singh highlighted the pivotal role played by consultants Dr Rajen Prasad and Radhe Nand, whose exhaustive consultations across Fiji provided valuable insights for the framework’s development.
“We acquired the services of two appropriate consultants from New Zealand Dr Rajen Prasad and Radhe Nand who offered their service to Fiji (free of charge) to propose a framework for the Government’s consideration,” he explained.
Throughout the consultation process, spanning over 50 engagements, stakeholders from various sectors including government officials, community leaders, academics, and representatives from faith-based organisations, provided input on shaping the Ministry’s mandate and objectives.
“As we revive the Ministry of MultiEthnic Affairs after 13 years, our draft framework charts a clear path forward, outlining priorities that resonate deeply with the fabric of our society,” Minister Singh said.
Key components of the framework include initiatives to promote social cohesion, celebrate cultural heritage, and ensure equitable access to government services for all ethnic communities.
Minister Singh stressed the importance of fostering trust and respect amongst communities, as well as strengthening ties between the government and its citizens.
“The framework envisions Fiji as a socially cohesive nation where individuals from all backgrounds can coexist harmoniously in an integrated and inclusive manner,” Minister Singh elaborated.
Furthermore, the framework aims to shape Fiji as a nation known for its respect for indigenous culture, appreciation of ethnic diversity, and inclusivity.
Minister Singh has extended gratitude to all contributors and announced plans to table the framework for Cabinet’s consideration.
