-

SIVINA LIKUBAI’S determination and drive has been the driving factors behind the success of her thrift business.

Hailing from Ra, the mother of six has been able to provide for her family over the years.

She is based at a kiosk at the Laqere Market.

She first started selling at the roadside by her village on selected days in the week and was fortunate to be receiving a shipment of clothes from a loved one overseas.

Sivina as based at the roadside for more than three years before venturing into having her own kiosk early last year.

Having her own space for business has been a bonus.

Sivina said her roadside business was running well however she said it started to create an inconvenience for her buyers considering the distance and travelling time.

Sivina is the sole bread winner for her family and being able to provide for her loved ones has been rewarding, she says.

“I feel great, buying the needs and necessities for my children,” she said.

While many who come to the market, expect to see kiosks selling a wide range of food and snacks, Sivina’s business offers a different range of items for those passing through.

She was inspired to venture into selling clothes as it is a basic need and people would consider coming to buy from her outlet.

Her kiosk offers a wide range of clothes for different sizes and occasions. She also sells a few pairs of shoes to complement certain outfits.

While some may doubt her successful venture seeing that she may not have as much experience compared to other business owners, Sivina continues with her head held high and learning everyday.

The mother of six offered timely encouragement for young women. She said they should not consider the lack of finance or knowledge as a barrier to becoming successful. “We can all thrive and achieve great things, as women, we just need to believe in ourselves.”

“Women do not just belong in the kitchen, we can also contribute towards bread and butter for our families,” she said.

So if you are looking for affordable clothing and passing through Laqere Market don’t hesitate to check out her kiosk.

You may just find what you’re looking for while supporting Sivina who is the sole breadwinner in her family.
