A leading retail group

- By ZIFIRAH VUNILEBA

SINCE first being established more than 90 years ago, RB Patel Ltd, one of Fiji’s leading retail groups has accredited its success to constant growth and exceptional performance.

The RB Patel Group (RBG) was first established from a single family-owned supermarket in the 1930’s at Labasa.

According to the RB Patel website, the company has 12 retail locations in many parts of the country. Their retail outlets are now based in lami, lautoka, sigatoka, nadi, nasinu, suva, nausori and their newly opened outlet in Savusavu.

RBG not only specialises in retailing but explores other trades as well which include wholesaling and property.

As a leading wholesaler, RBG supplies household and consumer items to around 700 smaller stores in the country and the Pacific.

They have a dedicated business portfolio in supermarket, departmental stores, importers, exporters, wholesalers, distributors, cinema, and property development.

The group has been publicly listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange since July 17, 2001, and is the only publicly listed supermarket in Fiji.

RBG is the complete departmental store tailored to cater for all their customers needs.

It truly is a one stop shop for all its customers.

Ronald Reddy, the senior west operations manager with more than 48 years of experience shared his journey in the company along with its evolvement over the years.

“I first started my journey with RB Patel in 1975 and that was when RB Patel had one small shop underneath the Lilac theatre basement,” he said.

Mr Reddy said his journey began as a packer boy before later being transferred to a new retail location in Waimanu road in 1976.

“In 1977 we had another branch in Cumming Street that was the old Fiji Sun office.”

The senior west operations manager said he worked there before returning to their branch at Waimanu road.

RB Patel quickly evolved a few years later and this was further mentioned by Mr Reddy.

“In 1986, we opened a branch which is now our head office at Centre point. With years of experience and knowledge under his sleeve, Mr Reddy said he has worked in many branches around the country.

“I have worked in various branches throughout Fiji.

I also worked in Labasa, Suva, in the west and within all the branches.

Having been part of the company for more than 48 years, he commended a few of their areas of operation.

“The way I look at it, RB Patel looks after its customers.

He said staff off the company ensure all customers are treated fairly.

Investing in their staff through constant training was another aspect which was also acknowledged by Mr Reddy.
