PRF lauds Government
THE Paci c Recycling Foundation (PRF) has expressed appreciation for the recent comments made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, regarding the inclusion of measures that promote recycling in the upcoming National Development Plan (NDP).
PRF ounder Amitesh Deo conveyed the foundation’s anticipation to see the integration of Prof Prasad’s stance into government policies and practices.
“We are pleased to note that recycling will be endorsed as a pivotal measure to tackle the waste management crisis in Fiji,” Mr Deo said.
Highlighting recycling as a sustainable solution for improper waste disposal, Mr Deo emphasised the importance of a comprehensive approach encompassing attitudinal shifts, community support, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
“We stand ready to work with the government to address the waste management crisis we are in.”
PRF’s advocacy efforts aim to raise awareness about the environmental, economic, and social advantages of recycling, with a commitment to collaborate with the Government in
addressing the waste management challenges.
Emphasising the commitment of PRF and Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd (WRFL) towards transforming the waste management landscape, Mr Deo urged stakeholders involved in recycling discussions to respect PRF’s principles of inclusivity and environmental sustainability.
“We stand ready to work with the Government to address the waste management crisis we are in.”
Furthermore, Mr Deo stressed the signi cance of incorporating the voices of grassroots communities, particularly women and LGBTQ+ individuals engaged in recyclable collection, in any dialogue concerning recycling and waste management.
“We represent different sectors of the recycling space and are the voice for those involved in the collection of recyclables. It is not possible to hold any discussion regarding recycling, without the voices of the grassroots communities, especially those engaged in the collection of recyclables which mostly comprises women and members of the LGBTQ+ groups.”
With over three decades of experience in recycling, PRF and WRFL remain dedicated to fostering meaningful discussions and actions towards sustainable waste management practices in Fiji and the Paci c region.
