First ever fleet of electric tourist passenger vehicles
THE introduction of Fiji’s first ever fleet of electric tourist passenger vehicles (EV) by Rosie Holidays highlights the commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible business.
This was highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka on Wednesday during the unveiling of Rosie Holidays’ EV fleet in Nadi.
“Today as we reflect on this rich heritage, we also embrace a transformative shift towards sustainable tourism practices,” Mr Gavoka said.
“I can personally vouch for Rosie’s. And because they are a local family-owned company, these steps they take are driven out of generations of passion for our land, our vanua and our ocean.”
Mr Gavoka said the integration of EVs into Fiji’s transportation network signified more than technological advancement – it represented a paradigm shift towards greener tourism.
“By partnering with sustainable energy leaders, we lead the charge in combating climate change and reducing our carbon footprint.
“Each EV in your fleet symbolises progress - a testament to your proactive approach. I may sound philosophical but what you are doing is leaving behind a better Fiji and industry for those that are yet to enjoy and reap its benefits.”
Mr Gavoka referred to the National Sustainable Tourism Framework in which the health of the environment was foremost.
“We understand that responsible tourism is not a choice but an imperative - a delicate balance between visitor experiences and environmental conservation.
“We believe that sustainable tourism is an ongoing journey, one that demands constant innovation and unwavering dedication to conserving our natural heritage.
“The introduction of your EV fleet, I’m sure, marks just the beginning of your journey to achieving a 100 per cent fleet of zero emission vehicles.”
