VIVA ARTE VIVA INTERNATIONAL ART EXHIBITION CHRISTINE MACEL ENTRETIEN AVEC MASSIMILIANO GIONI NATIONAL PAVILIONS

Viva Arte Viva est le titre que Christine Macel a souhaité donner à la 57e Biennale de Venise. Une Biennale par et pour les artistes, dont l’exposition internationale se déploie comme un voyage ouvert au dialogue entre les cultures, les oeuvres et le public. Son originalité réside dans sa conception, qui incite à parcourir les pavillons comme on lirait un livre. En effet, Christine Macel a voulu que sa présentation ne soit pas que visuelle. À travers des ateliers, archives et rencontres avec les artistes, elle donne au public les clés d’une approche plus humaine et rhizomathique. Dans les pages qui suivent, elle s’entretient avec Massimiliano Gioni de l’élaboration de son exposition, qui s’articule en neuf chapitres ou « transpavillons », au sein desquels 120 artistes de toutes générations et origines sont présentés (dont 103 pour la première fois à Venise). Ainsi, du Pavillon des artistes et des livres au Pavillon du temps et de l’infinitude, la trajectoire met en résonance les oeuvres et mène à une lecture renouvelée des questions qu’elles soulèvent. D’autre part, sur les 84 pavillons nationaux répartis dans les Giardini, l’Arsenal et la ville, artpress en a sélectionné quatorze, tels le pavillon italien et le pavillon suisse qui ont rassemblé plusieurs artistes autour d’un sujet commun. La 57e Biennale de Venise est ouverte du 13 mai au 26 novembre 2017. Artpress reviendra sur cet événement dans son numéro de septembre.

artpress Viva Arte Viva is the title chosen by Christine Macel for the 57th Venice Biennale, a Biennale by and for the artists, in which the international exhibition will take the form of a journey open to dialogue between cultures, works and visitors. Its originality lies in its conception, according to which the pavilions are to be explored as one would read a book. Macel wanted this event to be more than visual. Through workshops, archives and discussions with the artists, she is offering visitors the keys to an approach that is humanist and rhizomatic. Here she talks to Massimiliano Gioni about her conception, articulated in nine “chapters” or “transpavilions” where 120 artists of many different generations and origins are exhibited (for 103 it is their first time in Venice). From the Pavilion of Artists and Books to the Pavilion of Time and Infinity, the trajectory allows the works to resonate together and leads to a fresh reading of the questions they raise. Then comes our own selection from the 84 national pavilions in the Giardini and Arsenale and around the city. Among these, the Swiss and Italian pavilions have brought several artists together around a common theme. The 57th Venice Biennale is open from May 13 to November 26, 2017.
