Le film intitulé OttO constitue la pièce maîtresse de cette nouvelle exposition. Ambitieux, réalisé en Australie, il croise fiction, réalité, croyance et science, avec deux figures en filigrane des somptueux paysages australiens : celle du physicien allemand Winfried Otto Schumann et celle de l’aborigène Otto Jungarrayi Sims. Ce dernier, dépositaire de terres ancestrales dans la plus importante aire aborigène protégée du pays, a guidé l’artiste pour ce tournage. Au-delà de leur similitude prénominale, le lien qu’établit Laurent Grasso entre les deux hommes constitue une métaphore des énergies et des connaissances qui s’additionnent. Au savoir traditionnel du peuple ancestral se superposent les recherches et les interprétations scientifiques du siècle dernier, notamment en termes de « résonance ». Ayant coutume de croiser les champs du mysticisme, de la science, de l’astronomie et de l’histoire, Grasso a trouvé dans cette région et dans sa culture un terrain de choix. Son film tente de capter les ondes qui semblent orienter d’étranges sphères flottantes dans l’espace, comme un choc entre civilisations et figures intemporelles. On retrouve ces sphères, déclinées en différents gabarits, matières et supports dans les autres oeuvres de son exposition. Science et fiction s’y s’entremêlent, croisant références religieuses, profanes, culturelles, physiques et scientifiques, afin de rendre perceptibles des phénomènes invisibles, mais non moins réels.

OttO is the title of this new exhibition, of which the film of the same name is the centrepiece. This ambitious film, made in Australia, combines fiction, reality, animistic beliefs and science, with silhouettes of two figures underlying the stunning Australian landscape: German physicist Winfried Otto Schumann and Aboriginal artist Otto Jungarrayi Sims. The latter, a custodian of ancestral lands in the largest Indigenous Protected Area of the country, was Laurent Grasso’s guide for this film shoot. Beyond their shared first name, the link developed by the artist between the two men is a metaphor for a fusion of energies and knowledge. Research and scientific theories from the last century are superimposed onto traditional Aboriginal knowledge, generating a kind of ‘resonance’ between the two. With his penchant for combining the fields of mysticism, science, astronomy and history, Grasso finds an ideal territory in this region and its unique culture. His film tries to capture the waves that seem to direct strange floating spheres in space, like a clash between timeless civilizations andfigures.We fin dthe se spheres, in different sizes, materials and supports present in the other works in the exhibition. Here science and fiction intertwine, merging religious, secular, cultural, physical and scientific references in order to render visible a series of phenomena, invisible but no less real.
