The idea of open, ex­pe­ri­men­tal, and thus so­cial­ly and po­li­ti­cal­ly crea­tive art is al­so a part of Cla­ra Cheung’s work. C&G Art­part­ment, the space she foun­ded in 2007 with her part­ner Gum Cheng, is one of the first in­de­pendent art spaces on the ter­ri­to­ry, hur­ried­ly ope­ned to of­fer ar­tists a place where they could free­ly ta­ckle lo­cal so­cio­po­li­ti­cal is­sues, of­ten stem­ming from to­pics iro­ni­cal­ly bor­ro­wed from cur­rent events. The first ex­hi­bi­tion ce­le­bra­ted the ten-year an­ni­ver­sa­ry of Hong Kong’s re­tro­ces­sion to Chi­na and of the fa­mous Ba­sic Law, the ter­ri­to­ry’s ve­ry own cons­ti­tu­tion that gua­ran­tees Hong Kong’s spe­ci­fic sta­tus un­til 2047.
