AVANT-PROPOS
I remember the elation with which Richard Texier first spoke to me about elastogenesis. He had coined the concept to simply designate, if I dare say so, a mechanism of creation with which all artists, writers and inventors are familiar, but without being aware of it, because by definition, the very act of creation demands that one is totally absorbed in it, with complete mental receptiveness, and with a confidence in what is being produced, an “innocence” that precludes any perspective. What I was hearing echoed the “very elastogenic” intuitions I had experienced when listening to artists talk or reading their accounts.
Richard Texier therefore wrote the Manifeste de l’élastogenèse, which was published in 2018 by Fata Morgana, along with an interview with Zéno Bianu and a poem written by him.
Unlike all the other manifestos written by artists and writers, this one does not extol the dogma of a new aesthetics, or a morality of creation, but rather sheds light on the initial impulse, the universal anchor. Its author formulates what many of us have touched upon deep within ourselves, or discovered in nature without naming it, or practised empirically.
This is why this publication, which was initially intended to republish the out-of-print Fata Morgana manifesto, very quickly expanded to include authors from a wide range of scientific and artistic disciplines. We would like to express our gratitude to all of them for their spontaneous and enthusiastic collaboration.
