Sumptuousness was also a word associated with this fête which seated guests in an orange tent which had previously been used for the King of Spain’s wedding, decorated with 16th and 17th Dutch masterpieces, 100 crystal chandeliers and tulips flown in from Amsterdam on the day, all in acknowledgement of the nationality of the owners. Sadly Eric Jelgersma was unable to attend following a serious accident just weeks beforehand, but insisted that the shown should go on.
