The Flip-flop Reinvented

Despite being the very symbol of travel, the flip-flop has, so far, been dominated by cheap, rubber options that tend to put a dent in even the best Vilebrequin-clad beach outfit – until now that is.

Dissatisfied with the poor quality and disposable nature of holiday essentials, Fred Scheckter, Mon Fred’s founder and creative director, has instead designed something that is enduring and beautiful.

True to its design principles of creating beautiful, functional and conscious products, Mon Fred have reinvented the holiday staple.

A year and a half of careful development and over 30 prototypes later, the result is a minimal design that is as comfortable as it is beautiful.

It is made with water-resistant, vegan leather straps, which are glued into a super-soft base using traditional shoe making methods, promising no more broken straps. Mon Fred have also committed to being carbon neutral through their forest project, which plants a tree for every pair sold.

They come in either black or beige, and at £55, they’re one of our top holiday essential items.

Watch out for this ambitious young company, set on changing the way travel products are designed.
