Located between Bastille and République, the Atelier des Lumières has made its home in the Chemin-vert foundry first set up by the Plichon brothers in 1835. After extensive renovation work, the Atelier des Lumières revived the space and reopened it to the public in 2018, and it has gone from strength to strength ever since. As the first digital art centre in Paris, the Atelier des Lumières is part of the Lumières network, which offers the public in France and abroad monumental immersive exhibitions in iconic venues and brings a dynamic, emotionally evocative approach to digital arts. The Atelier des Lumières boasts a unique multimedia installation equipped with 138 video projectors and an impressive high-tech sound system with 44 speakers. It has a floor-to-ceiling projection area of 3,270 m², with walls rising up to 10 meters. The art centre is hosting two exciting immersive exhibitions until 5 January 2025. The longer of the two plunges visitors into the heart of the Pharaonic Egypt, covering the period from the reign of Cheops to Ramses II. You will be able to explore Egypt during these great kings' eras and go back in time via projected masterpieces from a legendary, fascinating civilisation that spanned three millennia. The exhibits introduce you to everything from the creation of Egyptian myths and gods to the construction of the pyramids via daily life in ancient Egypt, the sacred river and source of life that is the Nile, and the temples from Luxor to Abu Simbel dedicated to the gods. Prepare to be amazed!
Visitors will also be dazzled by a shorter exhibition that invites them to get to know the Orientalists. Western painters such as Ingres, Delacroix and Gérôme were fascinated by the mysteries of faraway, bewitchingly exotic lands, finding inspiration in their sunlight and colour. Prepare to be swept away to a whole other world!

Apres d'importants travaux, l'atelier des Lumières lui redonne vie et ouvre ses portes au public en 2018. Son succès ne s'est pas démenti depuis. Premier centre d'art numérique à Paris, l'atelier des Lumières fait partie du réseau des Lumières, qui propose au public, en France et à l'international, dans des lieux emblématiques des expositions immersives monumentales autour des arts numériques à travers une approche émotionnelle et dynamique de l'art. Équipé de 138 vidéoprojecteurs et d'un impressionnant système audio high-tech avec 44 enceintes, l'atelier des Lumières dispose d'une installation multimédia unique en son genre. Celle-ci balaye une surface de projection de 3 270 m2, du sol au plafond, avec des murs mesurant jusqu'à 10 m de haut.
Jusqu'au 5 janvier 2025, le centre d'art accueille deux expositions immersives passionnantes. Le programme long plonge le visiteur au coeur de l'egypte des Pharaons, de Khéops à Ramsès II. Le public pourra y redécouvrir l'egypte au temps de ces rois et remonter le temps avec la projection de ces chefs d'oeuvre de cette civilisation mythique et fascinante qui s'étend sur trois millénaires : de la création des mythes et Dieux de l'egypte, à la construction des pyramides, en passant par la vie quotidienne de l'egypte ancienne, le Nil, fleuve sacré et source de vie, les temples dédiés aux divinités de Louxor à Abou Simbel. Un véritable éblouissement !
Laissez-vous également surprendre par le programme court qui invite à la découverte des Orientalises. Ingres, Delacroix, Gérôme…, ces peintres occidentaux fascinés par les mystères des terres lointaines, par un monde exotique envoûtant et inspirés par la lumière et les couleurs.
