British artist of Indian origin, Anish Kapoor (b. 1954), succeeds Lee Ufan and Giuseppe Penone in taking up the royal residency at Château de Versailles, making him the eighth artist to invest the gardens and dialogue with the architecture. “Anish Kapoor has chosen a small number of works. He will occupy just six sites as opposed to some twenty used by his predecessors,” says Catherine Pégard, president of the château's estate. His selection of colossal sculptures, unveiled from 9 June, places an emphasis on “the political history of Versailles,” she points out. The exhibition will be curated by Alfred Pacquement.
