CLASH OF HISTORY

At the same time, in the same place (the Carrousel du Louvre), Jonny Johansson was presenting two shows at once. While the men’s show referenced the future, the women’s had a historical dimension. A scholarly exploration of the distant past: jacquard, brocades, velvet and acanthus motifs abounded, and fabrics that were frayed, as if used by time. Even the bags were designed on wooden frames, like blank canvasses waiting for an old master’s brush. A more modern note is hit with bell bottom trousers. Literalistic and hyper-intellectual.
