Chufy is a book that describes trips made by art director Sofia Sanchez de Betak, alias Chufy. A seasoned globetrotter, in it she offers loads of tips garnered from her travels, from fashion weeks to long-distance voyages, from Patagonia, where she was born, to New York, where she now lives. When last on her way through Paris, MilK couldn’t resist asking this first-time mum for an interview. Coffee with Chufy. Who gave you this taste for travelling ? Definitely my mother. She would take us on adventurous trips every time she could. She has a luxury travel agency in Argentina and has an exquisite sensibility for the pleasures of life. - Was there a trip that made an impression on you as a child? Yes, we went to Egypt and Jordan with my mother and sisters in the middle of the Afghan war, and we could witness up close how political instability can literally kill the travel industry in days, even if it’s in another – yet nearby – country. Still, we felt completely safe and very far from a country at war. I learnt on this trip not to rule out a country on my bucket-list because of what I read in the news, or what international safety travel lists advise. It’s all relative. What is travel synonymous with for you? Discovery. Apart from travelling, how do you escape on a day-to-day basis? Reading, eating and sleeping! What is your favourite place around the globe to chill out? Patagonia. For food? Japan. For soul? India. For kids? Anywhere and everywhere. Do you know how to travel light? Even since the birth of your daughter? I used to! Until I had a baby... Now I feel that if I don’t bring all her clothes with me, they will be too small when I get back! Do you have any specific destinations in mind that you’d like to share with her? Tons! I would like to return to Egypt, discover India and show her Argentina. What do you never travel without? My baby and my husband! What’s your next family holiday destination? We are going to Mexico!
