ÉDITO
This first issue of Numéro art seeks to address an absence – that of a French art publication that is resolutey international (and therefore bilingual) and which analyses contemporary art in a way that is accessible to everyone. Published twice a year, it discusses upcoming important events in chronological order, so that readers will always have their fingers on the pulse of the Zeitgeist.
That doesn’t mean, of course, that it is an indiscriminate listing of every art event going on in the world. Instead it is a curated selection of the best exhibitions, biennials and fairs, but also a forum for the passionate men and women – be they artists, curators, auctioneers, gallerists, critics or museum directors – who make the world of contemporary art so fascinating and exciting. It is their stories that we aim to tell.
Numéro art also seeks to provide an entry point into a field that, contrary to what many currently think, is far more open and enjoyable than might first appear. In its pages, today’s art is celebrated as a popular, necessary and jubilatory human activity. A vector of new, thought-provoking and iconoclastic ideas, art perturbs our view of the planet we live on. It not only makes us look and think differently, but invites us to reinvent the world.
