Où manger ? Where to Eat ?
Antico Vico
This restaurant is located right in the heart of the historic centre with its terrace looking out onto the cathedral’s bell tower, which is lit up in the evening. The inside of the restaurant is just as welcoming and lovely with its arches and exposed stonework. The cuisine is regional but sometimes jazzed up cleverly. It’s of a high standard and focuses on its fish-based dishes. Service is professional and the personnel are smiling and attentive. We definitely recommend it !
This restaurant is a real institution in Gaeta. You don’t come here for the vista over the main street and the military harbour, but for the cuisine which has its roots in tradition. It reaches its pinnacle in the “maestria” (mastery) of Chef Davide Orlando. Naturally, amongst the specialities features Tiella, a local savoury tart made from octopus, tomatoes and olives. The dishes based on pasta (home-made!) are outstanding too.
Can you go to the South of Italy and not savour a pizza ? At Pizzeria da Ciro, you eat the real Neapolitan pizza, that is to say, the one with the cornicione (a raised edge). The dining room is large, so sometimes noisy, but that’s part of the local character !
One of the café’s greatest assets is undoubtedly its panoramic setting. This is the place to go for a brunch or aperitif.
