From November 16 to 18, 2016, the frolic crowds of the buzzing German capital will be replaced by determined-looking and well-dressed foreigners, busily parading in and out of stores with plans and models under one arm. Safe to say that INSIDE— The Festival of Interiors—is the rendez-vous of interior architecture and design. Joined by the World Architecture Festival, this year’s INSIDE will be held at the Arena Berlin, where visitors can take inspiration from 2,000 architects and explore interiors, exteriors, designer constructions and other creative housing designs of the future. At INSIDE’s heart is a global awards program celebrating state-of-the-art design of absolute importance. The star-studded shortlist includes Brazilian Studio MK27, Singaporean Wow Architects as well as the Chinese studio Neru&Hu, which was recently noted for installing a continuous clothing rail through the Comme Moi fashion brand flagship store in Shanghai.

The acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid left us in March 2016, but her prolific oeuvre will live on for future generations to come. Among her monumental endeavours is the new Beijing Airport terminal building, which tops the Guardian's list of seven wonders-to-be in the modern world. Preliminarily planned for completion in 2018, Zaha Hadid Architects and ADP Ingeniérie—the joint design team in charge of its concept design—have now announced its inauguration in 2019. And the project already impresses in scale: a ground area of 700,000 square metres allowing for an annual capacity of 45 million passengers expandable to 72 million, as well as 2 million tons of cargo. The estimated cost: 86 billion CNY (10 billion EUR). Located just 60 km from the capital, this flexible and progressive terminal leaves Beijing unaffected by air traffic. The new airport will also facilitate direct connections with local and national railways, including high-speed services.
