White SpringsVineyard 2017

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake The White Springs Vineyard is a unique site based on a particular limestone soil. This gives an obvious minerality to the wine. The nose is elegant with delicate aromas of white peaches, white flowers, citrus zest and a slight salinity. The texture is rich and round but well balanced out with the intricate acidity levels. Its poise quality and evenness gives it an outstanding lingering finish.

Ravines Wine cellar Pinot Noir 2016

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake The pinot Noir has a bright and blazing ruby color. The nose has an intense savory smell. It boasts of leaves cover, herbs garden, earthiness, dried spices & fresh cranberries. The palate is characterized by a vibrant acidity, freshness and a small, slender structure that gives a sturdier feeling. 2016, as the warm vintage that it was, is accountable for the added concentration and extraction. Good length.

Ravines Wine Cellar Cabernet Franc 2017

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake The Cabernet Franc is quite typical, with Loire propinquity. The nose is earthy & very juicy with aromas of strawberries, Brambleberries & Blueberries with a stunning perfume of violets as well as Szechuan Pepper. Its fruit-forward palate is expressive with quite soft tannins. The body is fleshy with a decent acidity level. In terms of structure, I’d say the wine is on the lighter side missing some intensity compared to the initiative, foretelling nose. The finale ends on a fading acidity.

Cabernet Blend, Le petit Caporal 2016

Finger Lakes, Seneca lake The wine has a deep but vivid cherry color. The nose has prominent hints of oak as well as a brightness and liveliness from the considerable Cabernet Franc portion of the blend. It has a complex set of aromas, ranging from juicy red berries to dark, sweet spices & cocoa powder. The palate is lush and mouth-filling, any hints of wood and vanilla disappears in the mouth to leave a good purity and concentration. Graphite becomes more apparent instead. Both the acidity and the tannins are shy making the structure more about the mouth-feel & flavors than the actual texture. It has a great maturity already and a mellow, tuneful finish.

Fox Run Vineyards Dry Riesling 2015

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake It’s very pale in color, but not in aromas. The Fox Run Dry Riesling 2015 is pure, clean and linear. Its nose has a high intensity with crush stones, lemon & grapefruit aromas. The palate offers a great deal of acidity, of tension, but with some texture also. The grippy peach & apricot skins feeling might be brief but still brings an added complexity to the wine.

Score : 14.75+/20 (89/100)

Fox Run Vineyards Semi-Dry Riesling 2016

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake Golden in color, this semi-dry Riesling has a blossomed expression with aromas of orchard fruits as well as an exotic touch of pineapple, papaya and melons. Rich and mellow, the palate mirrors the nose in terms of aromas, but with a generous and concentrated character. It’s crisp even with the weight of the off-dry almost medium-dry sweetness and full-body. The finish lingers on with a balance of sweet & lemony tartness.

Score : 14.5+/20 (88/100)

Herman J. Wiemer HJWVineyard Riesling 2016

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake The HJW Riesling comes from a cooler site with shallow soils. The nose is generous in intensity and bold. You can smell concentrated, very ripe peaches & citrus fruits, almost candied. The palate showcases a lean body, but a vibrant crispness and an appealing balance with a focus on the mineral character. The slight sweetness brings the body to a rich & creamy state that give added depth to the wine. Good & firm length.

Herman J. Wiemer Dry Riesling 2015

Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake This dry Riesling has an abundant and completely aromatic expression. The aromas include ripe & dense apples, pears, perfumed white blossoms and signature minerality. The palate is completely dry, but there’s some illusion of sweetness from the luscious character of the stone-fruits flavors. Even with this depth of taste, the wine is still edgy thanks to its cool-climate vibrant acidity. The texture is balanced enough to give a persistent length.
