CLOS DE VOUGEOT

Bourgogne’s largest Grand Cru

-

We make the wine to be aged, but also enjoyed in its youth. Burgundy winemakers have evolved over the last 10 or 15 years, they are looking less and less for ultra-tannic and austere wines that have the potential to age for 50 years in the bottle. this tasting proves that we no longer need to leave the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru to our descendants, we can open it before we go to heaven! however, to fully benefit from its extremely complex terroir, it is still preferable to let it rest quietly in the cellar for a decade.

HORIZONTAL TASTING

What inspires the curiosity of wine lovers is that Clos de Vougeot is shared with more than 80 owners on 50 ha, the largest Grand Cru in Burgundy. The composition of the soil is subtly different due to the location of the parcels, and the producers interpret this terroir differently in the wine. We never tire of Clos de Vougeot

This estate is the only one that vinifies in the Clos and owns several parcels to the north and south, top and bottom of the hillside. The colour is starting to turn garnet, but not yet faded. The nose is delicate and elegant with an aroma of dry clementine skin. On the palate, what a delight! Subtle and refined, melting on the tongue like tulle. Its saline attack and tannin grain are quite fine. The bitterness of the tannins underlines the structure. The fruitiness is already evolved. A good model of this appellation, finesse and power cohabit perfectly well in the bottle. Drink now or wait another 5 to 10 years. Very long on the finish.

Score 17.75/20 (95-96/100)

Like the name of the cuvée suggests, the plot is located just opposite the Grand Cru Musigny, next to the Château. Well-evolved and open, the nose reveals notes of cooked fruits like strawberry jam or orange confit with a touch of praline. The wine is elegant and brilliant. On the palate, it does not show its age; raspberry, blackcurrant.. we still find juicy fresh fruits. You can also feel the umami that comes from a certain age. It is straightforward, easy to drink, even a little too easy to understand and lacks certain nuances. It can be drunk on its own without accompanying a meal. Score 15.5+/20 (91/100)

(Magnum) The colour is beginning to take on a garnet tinge. As you approach the nose, you already find aromas like strawberry and fig brandy, which are fragrant and retain their youthful character. When the glass is swirled, the aromas are amplified like perfumes, accompanying a note of cigar and minerality that evokes a piece of limestone. On the palate, this wine is remarkably balanced between fruit, tannins, and freshness. The candied fruit note is not yet withered, the tannins show their presence. The peak is still a long way off. However, its tannins and fruits have come together very well, so it is excellent even today. Score 16.25+/20 (93/100)

The parcel is located in the heart of the Clos. The nose is open and reveals aromas of wet leaves, cocoa, toasted notes and blonde tobacco. Compared to the well-developed nose, the palate still holds vitality. This is an elegant and subtle wine, with fine tannins that are very supple, even a little too much to support its body. On the finish, the flinty minerality gives a pleasant freshness to the wine. Score 14.75/20 (86-89/100)

This estate has two parcels at the bottom of the vineyard and one in the middle, next to the château. The nose is delicate with aromas of earth and faded roses. Salinity and tannins are fairly consistent in the attack. Full-bodied, muscular, blood and iron, it is very masculine accompanying the sweet fruit note. Like dried fruit well compressed in a metal box, it is solid and at the same time pleasant. It demands a powerful meal like game. It can be kept for at least another 5 years. Score 15/20 (89-90/100)

The robe shows already a light garnet hue. The nose is subtle and delicate like a silk thread, but also splendid and elegant like a blooming rose. The aromas are so melted and complex that it is difficult to specify. On the palate, the wine is still full and keeps its youth! The aromas of fresh fruit are still there, even very persistent. It is full-bodied but also retains its freshness. The fine tannins show their presence, which ensures the longevity of this bottle. Score 18.25+/20 (96-97/100)

This house owns several parcels, on the north side, middle and lower slopes. The colour is still youthful compared to the well-evolved nose; earthy, dry leaves, burnt vine shoots. On the palate it is masculine, still active and retains its freshness. The melted but massive tannins support the body well. It is a very straight and harmonious wine.
