In October, the United States’ first autonomous robot farm was launched in California. It was created by a company called Iron Ox in order to address the two main issues that the agricultural industry currently faces: a labour shortage and a need to increase production. Autonomous machines are used to plant leafy greens and herbs in individual pots. A robot controlled by AI software then moves around the farm, transporting the pots to the processing area. Another robot is in charge of harvesting the plants. Investors, convinced by the project, have massively helped Iron Ox with fundings, making more than $10bn in investments last year.
