The end of pay-asyou-wish
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is ending its famous pay-as-you-wish tradition. Visitors will now have to pay a mandatory admission fee of $25 if they do not live in New York state starting March 1, the museum announced. The Met wants to generate a reliable annual revenue after financial turbulence and leadership turmoil. But the move has provoked outcry from many commentators who argued that this public museum should remain open to all.
