Tessa Jowell
Former Labour cabinet minister Dame Tessa Jowell has died after a battle with brain cancer. Tessa Jowell served as a minister during the whole of Tony Blair’s and Gordon Brown’s premierships. As Culture Secretary in Blair’s Labour government, she helped to bring the 2012 Olympics to London, and she has campaigned for better treatment of brain cancer in the final months of her life. Politicians across the spectrum paid tribute to her. Tony Blair declared that she “had passion, determination and simple human decency in greater measure than any person I have ever known.” The government also announced an extra £20m for research into brain cancer.
