The caravan

-

Last month, a caravan of walking migrants started its journey through Central America from Honduras, with the objective of reaching the United States. The caravan drew additional people along the way, consisting of more than 7,000 migrants by the end of October. Its participants were fleeing widespread violence, poverty and corruption in their country of Honduras. They reached Guatemala before illegally crossing the Mexican border and heading north to the United States. As the event took place days before the U.S. midterm elections, the caravan became a point of focus in Donald Trump’s campaign, who said he would not accept the migrants into the country. As for Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, he said the United States, Canada, and Mexico should set up a joint plan for funding development in the poor areas of Central America and southern Mexico.
