THE GLOBAL CARBON BUDGET
A report from The Global Carbon Project, made public last month, found that global carbon emissions jumped to a record high in 2018. The report’s authors – 76 scientists from 57 research institutions in 15 countries – said that more coal-burning in China and India and a growing number of cars on the roads accounted for the increase. Emissions were up 6.3% in India, 4.7% in China and 2.5% in the US for the year but all the countries contributed to the rise. However, according to the Global Carbon Project scientists, this trend can still be turned around by 2020, if cuts are made in transport and industry emissions.
