A dancer and choreographer, born in 1974 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Faustin Linyekula slips effortlessly between cultures, one day staging Bérénice at the Comédie–Française and the next working with Congolese rap artists. In Drums and Digging, he returns to his childhood in a village where his father taught school. The desire to dance sprouted in the hell of a country ripped apart by civil war. The figure of dictator Mobutu hangs over a performance which marries dance, song and puppetry. Stage design is by the German architect Bärbel Müller. 28th April to 2nd May at the Théâtre des Abbesses ( Paris ).
