French actor and producer Édouard Baer likes to savour a pastis here, in the shade of a 100–year old paulownia. Adepts of Arles’s International Photography Festival gather here to set the world to rights between two photoshoots. The place, Hôtel du Cloître, seems straight out of a Van Gogh painting with its exposed beams and bright colours. It was inaugurated in 2012 and is now the beating heart of the world’s summer capital of photography. They come here for the twenty or so rooms by designer to the jet–set India Mahdavi, and for owner Maja Hoffmann’s collection of contemporary art. But above all, they come for its direct proximity to the unmissable, mind–blowing tapas served at L’Ouvre–Boîte, the in–town extension of the above–mentioned La Chassagnette. An added bonus is that ( well–behaved ) pets are welcome.
