From Yves Saint Lau­rent, to Gior­gio Ar­mani, Vivi­enne West­wood and Karen Mul­der, Jean-Marie Périer cap­tured for eter­nity lead­ing fash­ion de­sign­ers and muses in pho­to­graphs with highly orig­i­nal stag­ings that are the hall­mark of his work. In an ex­hi­bi­tion en­ti­tled Fash­ion Gal­axy, some 30 of his pho­to­graphs of the world of fash­ion, in­clud­ing many that have never been shown be­fore, are on dis­play at the Photo 12 Ga­lerie. Périer’s ca­reer be­gan in the 1950s in Paris where he worked for main­stream pub­li­ca­tions like Paris Match and Télé 7 Jours be­fore be­com­ing the photographer of the renowned French mu­sic mag­a­zine Sa­lut les Copains, pho­tograph­ing ma­jor fig­ures of the world of mu­sic. Af­ter more than a decade in the United States pro­duc­ing ad­ver­tis­ing films, he re­turned to France in 1990 to work for the mag­a­zine Elle. The ex­hi­bi­tion presents iconic pho­to­graphs with no­tably Karl Lager­feld in front of his snow- cov­ered château in Ham­burg and Kenzo astride an ele­phant. - P.V.
