The cel­e­brated pho­to­graphs of the renowned por­trait photographer Dou­glas Kirk­land are the ob­ject of a ret­ro­spec­tive ex­hi­bi­tion at the Ga­lerie GADCOLLECTION re­veal­ing the im­mense tal­ent of the artist who would take some of the most widely known pic­tures of em­blem­atic icons of the worlds of fash­ion and cinema. There is the fa­mous An Evening with Mar­i­lyn shoot, Brigitte Bar­dot play­ing with cards in Mex­ico, Jack Ni­chol­son in the early days and the cel­e­brated and pow­er­ful Shed­ding Tear pic­ture of Judy Gar­land whom he took to the road with for a month. He would fol­low Coco Chanel for three weeks in the sum­mer of 1962, dur­ing her en­tire day, and emerging, for ex­am­ple, with pic­tures of the de­signer plac­ing a pin into one of her iconic jack­ets or sur­vey­ing the fit­ting room from a cor­ner, smok­ing a cig­a­rette. - P.V.
