Glashütte Original drew its inspiration from the eyecatching colours and shapes of the 1960s for its annual addition to its Sixties Collection. The two new timepieces, the Sixties and Sixties Panorama Date (pictured right), are outfitted with a stunning green dial crafted in the watchmaker’s own dial manufactory and are available for a limited period of one year only. Signature features of the watches include domed sapphire crystals, curved hands and Arabic numerals but the most striking effect is the green dial with its shading ranging from a light green in the centre to a darker one on the domed periphery of the dial. With the help of a 60-tonne press, the brass dial blank is imprinted with the intricate pattern of a guilloche stamp and to obtain the shading effect the dial is given a galvanic base coat followed by layers of coloured lacquer and in a final step a black lacquer is applied with a special spray gun, which produces, depending upon the angle at which the gun is held, an individual colour gradient rendering each dial unique. The dials are then fired at high temperature to burn in the colour. - P.V.
