Rooms full of Jacksons, Michael Jackson
The Grand Palais in Paris is paying tribute to one of the great cultural figures who emerged out of the 20th century in an exhibition entitled Michael Jackson: On the Wall. The show offers an exploration of the cultural impact of Michael Jackson’s stardom and musical work on the world of contemporary art from the 1980s to the present day. The artist remains one of the most influential cultural figures to have emerged from the 20th century and his legacy lives on into the 21st century. Since Andy Warhol first used his image in 1982, a range of contemporary artists across the generations and the continents have done the same and the show brings together the works of over 40 of these artists emanating from public and private collections around the world all the while including new works made especially for the exhibition. The works presented have been created in myriad mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and performance. - P.V.
