ʻWell-being and Haute Cuisine
As always, the first stage on one of our trips is to find a hotel providing high-end services and where we can be sure we’ll have a pleasant time, aside from days spent skiing. So, no worries there – the Lenkerhof will please all tourists, even the most demanding ones ! Certainly, its massive appearance as seen from outside can come as a surprise at first sight, and it is far removed from the boutique hotels that we are fond of. However, it is interesting to know that this establishment founded in the Eighteenth Century (yes, really !) was originally a spa resort and care centre. It retained this function for a long time. Towards the end of the Seventeenth Century, the first hotel-spa, called Bad Lenk, was built downstream from the richest sulphurous Alpine spring, Balmen. Today, the spring is an integral part of the hotel’s architecture. Only in 1988 was the establishment permanently turned into a luxury hotel, now part of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux group.
As soon as you enter the hall, the elegance of yesteryear is immediately evident with large leather sofas and crystal chandeliers. There is a huge choice of rooms which are demurely decorated with Teutonic touches ; something you may or not appreciate... Let’s move on to the plus points. First of all, there is the lovely, spacious sauna area. However, be warned ! As always in Northern countries, this is a nudist and mixed zone... The indoor and outdoor swimming pool rounds off the relaxation area. The restaurants are also worth a visit, especially the « Spettacolo ».
