PajSoil v3
The user interface of the pajSoil v3 compressor is as simple as it is modern. In addition to classic parameters, there are also more unusual setting options, which allows the plug-in to set accents in the highly competitive market of dynamics processors. The compression curve is displayed in a graphically appealing way. In practice, pajSoil proves useful on individual tracks, especially for vocals and drums. In the overall mix or on bus tracks, it can pleasantly glue different instruments together. The dynamics processor can process not only the stereo signal, but also the mid/side signal.
In addition, the plug-in masters parallel compression and also supports an external sidechain signal. For the latter, there is also a filter with the three modes lowpass, bandpass and highpass. A not so common feature for a compressor is the option to set negative ratio values. If this is used in combination with the lookahead function, drastic pumping effects can be achieved. Numerous presets, categorized by drums, guitars, vocals or mix bus, among others, round off the plug-in‘s range of functions. By the way: With PajSoil EiS, the manufacturer also offers a function-reduced, but free version of the compressor.
Verdict
As an inexpensive mixing and mastering tool, pajSoil v3 is recommended across the board. The compressor not only sounds high-quality, but also leaves plenty of room for creative dynamics processing. Furthermore, it scores with a multitude of presets. The sidechaining and the look-ahead function make the tool even more valuable and versatile.
