Fine Trance with rich basses

-

Anyma knows how to impress with his tracks in two ways: Anyone who has ever visited his Instagram account knows the futuristic animations with which his sounds not only invite you to float, but also touch us deeply. Like his previous songs, „Running“once again proves how trance should sound in 2022. And not only thanks to the beautifully soft pads, but above all due to the powerful bass ...

Two basses

... the song offers two of them: The first one is a relatively classic 16th note bass à la psytrance, while the second one serves as a kind of stab that is used regularly, especially after the break, to give the song more drive. Since we want a strong foundation, we create both with the SE-3X (alternatively Thorn Solo).

Filter settings

We design envelope 2 identically so that the volume also follows the bounce and the sound fades out briefly instead of ending abruptly. In order to control filter accentuation via velocity as in the original, we set DYN at ENV 1> VCF to 99% in the filter settings, as well as at ENV 4 > SWP2. Now load the MIDI file of the stab and let it inspire you.

Three oscillators

For the stab, a fat basic sound is important, which we achieve by using all three oscillators, the first two of which provide sawtooth and square, respectively, while the third provides the triangle waveform. We also tune OSC 2 up 12 semitones. We drive the volume of OSC 1 and 3 to almost full blast, OSC 2 only to the 57%.

Bassline

The main bassline is even simpler. This needs a 16th note sequence, where the first two notes have half velocity, the other two have full velocity. The sound is very soft, but pleasantly powerful in the lower range. We create this sound again with three oscillators: a triangle waveform, a square and again a triangle.

Sound design

But especially ringmod at full power makes the sound much crisper. For envelope 1 we set ATTACK and SUSTAIN to zero, DECAY and RELEASE to about 11 o‘clock and turn ENV 1 AMNT to 2 o‘clock so that the sound bounces nicely. The FREQUENCY filter fits well at 12 o‘clock and we also turn RESONANCE up to 11 o‘clock to make the sound clearer.

Soft and powerful

The triangle waveforms provide warmth, the rectangle the pressure. However, we tune OSC 2 and 3 an octave higher and turn up the volume fully, while OSC 1 only runs at 50%. Now turn cutoff to 9 o‘clock, set the envelope as for the previous bass and set ENV 1 AMNT to 11 o‘clock. We already have a round bass ready.
