DJ-set configuration on Twitch
After we introduced the necessary equipment for a DJ Stream on Twitch [1] in Part 1, we will now look at the necessary configuration of audio and video signals in Streamlab. An optimal level control for the microphone and music signal is also essential. We show you what you need to pay attention to.
1
Controller
Connect your DJ Controller to the computer on which the rekordbox DJ software is installed. Use the link function to drag the songs from the playlists to the decks; alternatively, the music is fed by way of USB sticks. The output signal of the controller is then wired to the audio input of the sound card / audio interface of the computer. 1
2
Microphone config
To interact with the audience and the chat, a streamer microphone with a swiveling arm, such as the PSA1 from Røde [3], is recommended. Ideally, the microphone is connected to an external mixing console with an intermediate compressor. As an emergency solution, a microphone can also be connected directly to the controller. 1
3
Audio configuration
Open Streamlabs. In the Audio Settings (Global Settings), select the appropriate source (microphone) for the microphone signal; and the input of Mic/Aux Device 2 is used for the DJ signal of the controller. In the Streamlabs mixer, also pay attention to the correct leveling so that none of the signals is overdriven or too quiet. 1
4
Video configuration
Integrate an external camera into Streamlabs. Click on the + sign under Sources to integrate an external camera (such as a Canon EOS M50 [4]) into the setup. Check the distance and the lens settings so that both the DJ‘s upper body and a large part of the controller can be seen in high-resolution sharpness. 1
5
Playlist and genres
Create playlists in rekordbox for your favorite genres or occasions. As a DJ, you should follow your own tastes that you favor and fully stand behind; however, because gamers are the main audience on Twitch and they prefer to listen to HandsUp, Hardstyle and Hardcore, the chances of success for DJ sets are greatest in these genres. 1
6
Legal
In Twitch‘s terms and conditions, streamers agree not to play music that is neither licensed nor owned [5]. Strictly speaking, only royalty-free music should be played, but this is rarely practiced. It is important that no recordings of DJ streams are saved on Twitch in order to avoid legal consequences.
