Tape warmth in the mix – now for free from Apogee
Since 1991 and the existence of the first Apogee AD-500 converter, the Soft Limit has been an integral part of their in-house converters. From the AD-8000 to Symphony I/O to the current Duet 3, people have relied on it. Now Apogee has faithfully recreated the Soft Limit as a virtual effect plug-in and is giving it away for free. With Soft Limit, you bring the warmth and character of analog tape into your productions. In the original, the Threshold was fixed, but the plug-in allows the full range and settings from as low as -18 dBfs. If you activate the Makeup, the level is automatically raised when the soft limit threshold is lowered. More saturation is brought into play by the Drive control with level adjustments of ±18 dB. The Output knob controls the output level. An Input, Soft Limit and Output meter provides visual information about the level. The tool also offers up to 16x oversampling rates. If the maximum value is set, the CPU load should still be low.
Soft Limit can be downloaded now for free. It supports VST, VST3, AU and AAX formats.
