Studioszene Mannheim 2022

On August 30 and 31, the Studioszene will take place again at the Rosengarten in Mannheim - the largest live community event of the audio industry in the German-speaking region. On site, many manufacturers will show you their latest products and invite you to try them out. In addition, there will be plenty of opportunities to talk to like-minded people and to network with them. Last but not least, there will be master classes where you can expand and deepen your own production skills. Sascha Blach talked to the creators ...

Henning Verlage – Star Producer & Lecturer Having become known as the Producer for Unheilig, Henning Verlage is still a soughtafter Producer, Songwriter and Mixing Engineer.

Beat / Among other things, you‘ll be spotlighting the production of Unheilig‘s „Sea of Lights“?

Henning / Yes, „Lichtermeer“is a current production from the latest posthumously released Unheilig album „Lichterland“. Even if it‘s specifically about this title, the song is exemplary for the general way I approach a production, the arrangement and the overall sound „in the box“, meaning it‘s mainly about workflow, session organization, plug-ins, libraries and VST instruments used, which can also be applied to other productions, DAWs and projects.

Beat / What makes a good Master Class for you?

Henning / It should be entertaining, show a lot of hands-on and, hopefully, be inspiring. I also like to watch Master Classes myself, because you always take something away from them. Sometimes, it‘s just the confirmation that „ah, he or she does it that way too, so I‘m not wrong with my way of working. That helps with your own progress.

Beat / Do you talk spontaneously or do you prepare your presentation meticulously?

Henning / I prepare the session and the rough path through it in order to get all the essential points done within the allotted time. Apart from that, I also like interactivity with the audience, so that sometimes things develop differently than planned or the focus becomes different. That is always different. Spontaneous anecdotes from everyday life in the studio are also part of it, of course, because they show that not everything always goes as technically planned as it might seem (laughs).

Marc Bohn – The Organizer Marc Bohn is the Editor-in-Chief of Sound&Recording Magazine, Event Manager of the Studioszene and is mainly responsible for the Studioszene Trade Show. We asked the organizer what you can expect.

Beat / Marc, there are quite a few music fairs. What makes Studioszene special? Marc / The Studioszene is organized by the industry for the industry and is tailored to the Recording & Producing community. The organizing team includes many Producers and Engineers like Waldemar Vogel (Max Giesinger), Stephan Lembke (Galaxy Instruments) and Clemens Matznick (Guano Apes), who will also be on site as presenters. This, as well as the Master Class program, shows how important the attractiveness of the event is to us as organizers.

Beat / You are guests at the Rosengarten in Mannheim. What does the location offer?

Marc / For example, there are many rooms for our Master Classes and Workshops. Everything takes place on one level, so the distances between the exhibition, workshop rooms and our discussion forum, where there is also a community lounge, are short. By doing this, we hope to make it cozy and create a positive vibe. There is also a lounge in the Studio Sofa corner, where you can retreat with a coffee and something to eat with like-minded people for a nerd talk.

Beat / Tickets are available with and without Master Classes. Why should you not miss them?

Marc / Moses Schneider, Ralf Christian Mayer, Bizzy Mo, Philipp Schwär ... I don‘t think you need to say any more than that (laughs). When Moses talks from the studio, it‘s not only informative, but also very entertaining! And Glenn Fricker‘s 90-minute workshop, which you can attend without a Master Class ticket, is included for everyone. That is also an absolute highlight for me.
