Live performance with the rack?

Not such a complicated matter! Thanks to handy racks and compact modules, a varied show is relatively easy to manage and won‘t even overload your travel suitcase. A tested live setup from our author Marco Scherer we show you here ...

At a width of just about 60 centimeters and one height unit, my live rack has everything it needs for a live performance: Blck_Noir provides the powerful drums, Moonwalker, Polygogo and Osiris mainly serve as the actual sound generators, and the Doepfer A-138p mixer is where they all come together. The mixer also has an effects path with the A-138o Out module. Thus I can also mix in reverb and delay from my Z5000 „effects machine“at will. The final output goes into the Digitakt and its master section.

The Moonwalker, in addition to its role as an oscillator, also serves as a generator for envelopes, but partly also as an LFO. Most of the lead sounds come from the Polygogo, which is best suited for performances thanks to its direct approach without double assignment of the controls. The Osiris on the other hand is responsible for basses and arpeggios. Since the sub has an extra output, even both are possible at the same time. The Digitakt provides additional drums, textures and vocals depending on the track.

The rack is controlled by the Korg SQ-64, which fits perfectly into the setup with its four tracks. Its drum track could even play more than the five drums from Blck_Noir. Maybe I‘ll add another drum module one day. In addition, the SQ-64 sends its clock via MIDI to the Digitakt, so that everything runs synchronously. The project memory could be bigger, but with 64 slots at least two to three complete shows are no problem.
